Average Tie is 56 inches long. (5’ 11’’ male)
Long Tie is 59 inches long. (6’ 1” male)
Extra Long is 61 inches long. (6’ 3”male)
Widest point is 2 ½ inches.
Narrowest point is 1 ⅛ inches.

Sizing Your Knit Tie:

Men come in all shapes and sizes, so the best way to size your tie is to know the measurements for whom the tie is intended for. Most knit ties will be thinner than a normal tie. This is because there is no taper on a knit tie. The width of the tie can be adjusted by adding or subtracting more or fewer stitches for the pattern to repeat when casting on.

How do you determine the crochet tie length?

Often knowing what length to make a tie will determine the height of a person. If making this as a gift use the guide below to choose which length your tie will be. The other factor that can affect length will be how the tie is tied. A Full Windsor Knot will be thicker than other knots, and therefore will require just a little bit more length. Ultimately, the aim is to have the knit tie rest around the buckle when a person is standing up.

Color choices are up to you! Get creative and have some fun. 

3.25 mm DPN or Magic Loop (US 3)

Round 1: Using Long Tail Method, cast on 36 sts. Leave a tail of at least 8" past cast on. This will be used to sew the tie shut.

Distribute stitches evenly and join to work in the round being careful not to twist sts using your preferred method. Place marker to signify the beginning of round. (36)

Rounds 2-5: Knit (36)

Knit Pattern Repeat, established as follows:

Round 6: Knit

Round 7: Knit

Round 8: *K1, P1, repeat* around

Round 9: Knit

Round 10: Knit

Round 11: *P1, K1, repeat* around

Work  Pattern Repeat until tie measures 16 inches (19 inches for Long and 21 inches for Extra Long), ending with a P1, K1 round.

Round 9: *k2tog, knit 16; repeat * to end (34)

Round 10: Knit

Round 11: *k1, p1, repeat* around

Rounds 12-13: Knit

Round 14: *p1, k1, repeat * around

Round 23: *k2tog, knit 14; repeat * to end (30)

Round 34: Knit until tie measures 37 inches (40 inches for Long and 43 inches for Extra Long)

Round 20: *kf&b, k9, repeat * around (22)

Round 22: *kf&b, k10, repeat * around (24)

***If you do not wish to have the pattern repeat design on the back part of the tie, continue to knit until tie measures 56 inches (58 inches for Long and 59 inches for Extra Long), then go to Finishing. (makes no difference for function) ***

Rounds 23-25: Work Pattern Repeat until tie measures 56 inches (59 inches for Long and 61 inches for Extra Long) (24)

Rounds 26- 30: Knit (24)

Knit Tie Finishing

Bind Off, fasten off,  and draw thread through last stitch. Use ending thread to stitch beginning and ending tie openings closed, weave in end.

The recommended way to tie is the four-in-hand method and to pull snug
