Arrow Knit Beanie Pattern Notes:

This beanie pattern is worked from the bottom up and uses the intarsia knitting technique. However, the duplicate stitch can also be used after the beanie is knit. For a duplicate stitch, tutorial click here: https://brianakdesigns.com/how-to-duplicate-knit-stitch/

Colorwork:

  1. When changing colors for arrow design the yarn can be cut and weaved in later.
  2. Or it can be worked by floating the yarn across the back of the work and bringing it to the starting point of the arrow design. This method can leave some puckering and tension can be a challenge.
  3. Or it can be worked using intarsia in the round where at the end of each round it is turned.
    a. Place marker at the beginning of the round. Make a backward YO, knit the first row of the arrow pattern adding all of the color changes where indicated.
    b. At the round marker turn the work. Now working on the wrong side.
    c. Make a backward YO before working the round on the wrong side.
    d. Purl around on the wrong side, working the color changes as they appear on the chart.
    e. At the round marker knit the last stitch of the round together with the YO.
Turn the work and repeat steps a-e

Changing Colors: When changing color, work in the last stitch of current color to the last two loops, yarn over with the new color and pull through two loops. Continue to work in new color. For this hat, it’s not necessary to carry your non-working yarn all the way through the round. Once the arrow color is worked simply drop the color until you work back to the arrow portion on the next round. Carry your yarn to the beginning of the working portion without pulling tightly. Crochet over the carried strand to hide it.
