Row 1: Using Pumpkin Thick & Quick (orange) Yarn:
Fdc 10 (12, 14, 16), ch 2 and turn [OR chain 11 (13, 15, 17), dc in second chain from hook and across, join and chain 2] (wrong side) 10 (12, 14, 16)

Row 2: dc in first 9 (11, 13, 15), 2dc in next, 4dc around the end of the fdc row, now working around the other side, 2dc in next, dc 9 (11, 13, 15), turn and ch 2 (right side) 26 (30, 34, 38)

Row 3: dc 8 (10, 12, 14), (2dc in next, dc 2) three times, 2 dc in next, dc 8 (10, 12, 14), turn and ch 2.

Row 4: dc in each stitch across, turn and ch 2. 30 (34, 38, 42)
For 1-3 years, repeat this row 8 more times For 4-7 years, repeat this row 9 more times For 8-12 years, repeat this row 10 more times For teen/adult, repeat this row 11 more times

Round 1: dc in each stitch across, join to first stitch in row (this forms the neck portion), join and ch 2 (for 1-3 years & 8-12 years, join, turn and ch 2). 30 (34, 38, 42)

Round 4: Working in flo only, if doing neck warmer insert, *2dc in first, dc in next 7, (8, 9, 10); repeat * around. Join, change to Black Thick & Quick Yarn and ch 2. 36 (40, 44, 48)

Round 5: *2dc in first, dc in next 8, (9, 10, 11); repeat * around. Join, change to Pumpkin Thick & Quick (orange) Yarn and ch 2. 40 (44, 48, 52)

Round 6: dc in each stitch around, join and ch 2. 40 (44, 48, 52)
*For 8-12 years and teen/adult, repeat round 6 one more time

Round 7: *For 1-3 years, skip this round and go to round 8.
*2dc in first, dc in next (10, 11, 12); repeat * around, join and ch 2. (48, 52, 56)

Round 8: dc in each stitch around. Join, fasten off, weave in ends. 40 (48, 52, 56)

Front Edging:

Attach Pumpkin Thick & Quick (orange) Yarn to the front opening of the hood and single crochet evenly around opening.

Neck Warmer Insert

Start with medium weight cream yarn, 5mm Hook 1-3 years (4-7 years, 8-12 years, teen/adult)

Round 1: Work in the blo on the inside of round 3 of the hooded cowl.

Fold the bottom of the cowl down so you can easily work on this round. The wrong side of your work will face outward. Join yarn, ch 2, 2dc in every blo loop from round 3, join and ch 2. 64 (72, 80, 88)

Round 2: dc in each stitch around, join and ch 2. 64 (72, 80, 88)
For 1-3 years, repeat this row 7 more times For 4-7 years, repeat this row 8 more times For 8-12 years, repeat this row 9 more times For teen/adult, repeat this row 10 more times.

Round 3: *dc2tog, dc in next 6; repeat * around, join and ch 2. 56 (64, 72, 80)

Round 4:*dc2tog, dc in next 5; repeat * around, join and ch 2. 48 (54, 60, 66)

Round 5: *fpdc in first, bpdc in next; repeat * around, join change to medium weight Black Yarn and ch 2. 48 (54, 60, 66)

Round 6: *fpdc in first, bpdc in next; repeat * around, join and fasten off, weave in ends. 48 (54, 60, 66)

Row 1: Using Pumpkin Thick & Quick (orange) Yarn:
Leaving a long tail to sew onto hooded cowl when finished, Fdc 3 (OR chain 4 and sc in 2nd stitch from hook and across), turn. (3)

Row 2: Ch1, sc in first, 3sc in next, sc in last, turn (5)

Row 3: Ch1, sc in next 2, 3sc in next, sc in last 2, turn (7)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next 3, 3sc in next, sc in last 3, turn (9)

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in next 4, 3sc in next, sc in last 4, turn (11)

Row 6: Using Black Thick & Quick Yarn, ch1, sc in next 5, 3sc in next, sc in last 5, fasten off and weave in ends but beginning tail. Using a yarn needle, sew fins to each side of hooded cowl. (13)
