How to Surface Crochet Slip Stitch Swirls:
The chain 1 and chain 2 spaces in the pattern will now be used as a guide to slip stitch the swirls on the stocking.
Continuous Swirls to Toe:
Start by attaching yarn to a chain space next to the top of the stocking. Slip stitch to the next chain one space. In the chain 2 spaces, slip stitch diagonally to move the swirl to an ‘S’ shape. Continue this to the toe of the stocking. At the toe, slip stitch toward the center and begin working the yarn back towards the top, crossing over at the chain 2 space. Fasten off and weave in ends for each slip stitch swirl.
Holiday Crochet Stocking Heel Swirls:
Start by attaching yarn to a chain space next to the top of the stocking. Slip stitch to the next chain one space. In the chain 2 spaces, slip stitch diagonally to move the swirl to an ‘S’ shape. Continue this to the heel of the stocking. At the heel, cut the working yarn leaving a long strand with enough yarn to finish the swirl back to the top. Pull the working yarn through the last slip stitch. Using the hook, pull the yarn back to the inside of the stocking and move over a couple of stitches to start working back up the swirl in the chain 1 space. Fasten off and weave in ends.
For under the heel, attach yarn to a chain space next to the bottom heel. Slip stitch to the next chain one space. In the chain 2 spaces, slip stitch diagonally to move the swirl to an ‘S’ shape. Continue this to the toe of the stocking. At the toe, slip stitch toward the center and begin working the yarn back towards the heel, crossing over at the chain 2 space. Fasten off and weave in ends for each slip stitch swirl.
