How to Crochet A Gauge Swatch

Construction
This fun summer tank is crocheted in
rows sideways and in one piece. The
front shaping is done on the end of the
rows by increasing or decreasing stitches.
Each side of the crochet tank has rows
of puff stitches that are similar to the
puff stitch straps that will be added once
the body is finished.
The back section of the body can be adjusted for fit

Special Stitches
Stacked Single Crochet (Stsc): Do NOT chain, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops, insert hook in the vertical bar below, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both
loops on the hook.
Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop. (Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop) two
more times (7 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through the first 6 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.
Third Loop: What’s really cool about half double crochet is that there’s a third loop on the back of your stitch when working in rows. If you work hdc into the third loop, you get a totally different, knit-like fabric. For this pattern, we are going to be working in rows, which means we will work on the
row below through the third loop on the front of our work.
Crochet Pattern Notes
- This pattern substitutes a traditional chain 2 on the edges for a Stacked Single Crochet.
A ch 1 on the beginning of a single crochet row is not necessary.
- Work the first and the last st in each row through both loops.
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning of each row is recommended.
- The instructions and stitch counts are given for the smallest size, with the larger sizes in
brackets ( ). Before you dive into your project, take a moment to identify the stitch and row
counts that match the size you're making. By highlighting or marking them, you'll save time
and effort later on. Trust us, this small step will make a big difference in your crochet journey!

Wash and block to measurements.
Joining
Fold the tank to align the first and last rows. To join the first row with the last row, either slip stitch the rows together. or hand sew the rows together using a needle and thread.
Straps
Leave a tail for sewing onto the crochet tank later and ch 3.
Step 1:
Puff st in the 3rd ch from the hook. Turn your work by rotating to the left.
Step 2:
Working in the ch space, puff st, turn.
Step 3:
Working into the space between the last two puff sts made, work a puff st, turn.
Repeat Step 3 until the desired length.
Tip: To ensure the straps are the best length, pin it in place and try it on, adjust with more or fewer puff stitches as needed. This is also a great time to decide on placement and consider how to best cover
bra straps if needed.
Once the length of the strap is determined, fasten off leaving a tail. Sew the straps to the front peaks of the tank and then to the back of the tank.
Want a criss-cross strap on the back? Adjust the length of the straps for a comfortable fit and then sew in place.
Finishing
Weave in all ends and lightly block again if necessary. Wear and enjoy your crochet tank top!
Care for your finished garment properly to ensure its longevity and beauty. You will want to handwash your handmade top with mild detergent and lay it flat to dry to preserve the delicate stitches and shape of the tank top and to avoid stretching out the gorgeous straps.
If you love those puff stitch accents as much as I do, crochet a coordinating Danbury Rectangle Bag or Autumn Wheat Beginner Cardigan—both will look incredible with your new top!
Cheers, and happy crocheting!
