13 sc sts x 13 rows = 4″ (10 cm)

12” x 12” (30cm x 30cm) blocked

Flower & Leaf Afghan Special Stitches:

Puff Stitch:
*YO, insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through the stitch and pull up to a dc height, repeat * 3 more times (9 loops on hook), YO and draw through all loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Spike Leaf:
This spike leaf will be worked into the 5 chain spaces from the previous rounds starting with the farthest right chain space and working to the left. This will count as one stitch. (instructional pictures de-saturated for stitch definition).

Flower & Leaf Afghan Instructions:

Step 1:

YO, *insert hook into sc stitch below the first chain space on the right, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook (2 loops remaining on hook).

Step 2:

YO twice, *insert hook into sc stitch below the second chain space, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook twice (3 loops remaining on hook).

Step 3:

YO three times, *insert hook into sc stitch below the third chain space, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook three times (4 loops remaining on hook).

Step 4:

YO twice times, *insert hook into sc stitch below the fourth chain space, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook twice (5 loops remaining on hook).

Step 5:

YO, *insert hook into sc stitch below the fifth chain space, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through two loops on hook (6 loops remaining on hook).

Step 6:

YO and pull through all loops on the hook, this will count as the next stitch and the stitch behind it should be skipped.

Do not work the one stitch behind the Spike Leaf stitch.

Flower & Leaf Afghan Pattern Instructions:

Round 1: With Color A, ch 2, working in the second chain from hook (puff stitch, ch 1) six times, join to the first stitch.

Round 2: With Color B, ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in first, sc in next, 2 sc in next; repeat * around, join to first sc, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 3: Ch1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 2, ch 1, skip 1, sc 2; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 4: Ch1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 2, ch 1, skip 1, sc, ch1, skip 1, sc 2; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 5: Ch1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 2, ch 1, skip 1, sc 3, ch1, skip 1, sc 2; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 6: With Color A, ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 5, spike leaf, sc 5; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 7: ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 3, ch 1, skip 1, sc 5, ch 1, skip 1, sc 3; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 8: ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 3, (ch 1, skip 1, sc 1, ch 1, skip 1, sc 3) twice; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 11:  ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 4, (ch 1, skip 1, sc 5) twice, ch 1, skip 1, sc 4; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), slip stitch to chain space (does not count as stitch).

Round 17: ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in chain space, sc 33; repeat * around, join to first sc with a slip stitch (counts as stitch), fasten off and weave in ends. Block piece to 12” x 12”.
