What Is Honeycomb Stitch?

The honeycomb is one of the most beautiful patterns in nature. It's a repeating pattern that has both an organic shape and a geometric one. The eye is mesmerized by this design. That's why you'll find it used in all different industries from textile design to flooring.

Therefore, it's of little surprise that you can learn how to knit honeycomb stitch, how to crochet honeycomb stitch, and even how to make the honeycomb stitch in Tunisian crochet. All three versions look very similar, especially when used to create the same project (like this headband) in the same yarn. However, look more closely, and you'll see slight variations in the texture - just like you would in the honeycomb of different bees.

Honeycomb Stitch Tutorials and Earwearmer / Headband Patterns

There are three different honeycomb stitch patterns in this earwarmer/ headband collection. That's because you can work this popular design in any number of crafts. In fact, you'll find it in embroidery, sewing, and graphic design. In this case, I've created the pattern in crochet, Tunisian crochet, and knitting. If you can do all three of these crafts, then make all three versions! If you can only do one of these crafts, then enjoy your tutorial!

Honeycomb Stitch Video Support

Each of these designs also come with video support. If you have never tried the honeycomb stitch do not fear! I've got written instructions and a video to guide to help you with each of these patterns. Just click on the tutorial you want to visit above and you'll find all of the instructions that you need for how to knit honeycomb stitch, crochet it or work it in Tunisian crochet.

The Earwarmer Headband Yarn:

For the Honeycomb Stitch Earwarmer Headbands, I originally chose to work with the Upcycle Wool Reserve from WeCrochet. This yarn was 100% Upcycled Wool. These special, single batch skeins give yarn a second life, creating complex heathers and saving fibers that would have otherwise gone to waste. What this means is it's a single batch, so once it's gone, it's gone. And unfortunately, it's gone.

However, WeCrochet has some great substitutes that work well for this pattern, such as:

CROCHET & TAG
