Colorwork can be a scary thing for those that haven't tried it before, but it doesn't need to be. Let's get your love affair with colorwork started!
Why Color Changing Yarn Is Amazing
One of the reasons I love working with WeCrochet & KnitPicks Chroma Yarn is because it does all the work for me. I only work with two strands in this colorwork project, but the tones just pop as they change.
If you haven't checked out all the Chroma colors yet, do it now.

The Monstera Crochet Cowl is worked in the Split Single Crochet Stitch in the round without joining, preventing any unsightly seams. The body is crocheted first, with the ribbing worked last. The chart and/or written instructions will need to be repeated four times for complete round instructions.
Special Stitches:
Split Single Crochet (ssc):
This stitch is worked as a single crochet but where the hook is inserted between the ‘V’ of the stitch. Pull up the first loop to have loose tension, so each round is easily worked.
Crab Stitch (aka: Reverse Single Crochet): sc worked from left to right; insert hook from front to back under top loop of next to right, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops.
In the colorwork section Color A (Chroma Fingering in Ponderoas) will be abbreviated as (A), and Color B (Chroma Fingering in Bare) as (B).
Example: (B) x 9 = with Color B ssc the next 9 stitches.
The chart will be worked from right to left for each round and repeated four times.
Instructions for the Crochet Monstera Cowl:
The traditional ch 1 at the beginning of the round is omitted. It is helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each Rnd.
Each round will be repeated 4 times for a total of 96 stitches per round.
Start by chaining 96 and work in the round.

Monstera Crochet Cowl Ribbing (2 options)
Crochet Ribbing Option 1 (Crab Stitch)
Ch 1, work crab stitch in each around, join. Fasten off, and weave in ends. Repeat for opposite edge.
Crochet Ribbing Option 2 (Ribbed Look)
Row 1: Ch 5, sc in the second chain from hook and across, sl st in next 2 sts on the cowl edge, turn. 4 sts
Row 2: Skip the 2 edge slip sts, in blo sc 4, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, in blo sc 4, sl st into the next two stitches on the cowl edge, turn.
Repeat Rows 2-3 ribbing around the cowl edge. To join the two edges together, fasten off and seam the beginning edge to the ending edge with a tapestry needle. Or, if preferred, slip stitch through the blo from the ending edge and the stitch from the beginning edge at the same time. Fasten off.
Join yarn to the beginning edge of the cowl and repeat the ribbing instructions.
Finishing the Monstera Crochet Cowl
Fasten off and weave in ends. Block aggressively to reduce slanting of the stitches.
