Even Moss Crochet Stitch Tutorial + Pattern
The Even Moss Crochet Stitch creates such a fabulous texture. It's one that is so unique to the crochet craft.
If you want a stitch that is versatile this is it. It's got a great texture for a washcloth, but a light drape so it can be used for garments as well. It's also reversible which is a plus!
And this texture is an easy repeat, you combine only two stitches and alternate between them to create the even moss stitch pattern.

Even Moss Crochet Stitch Supplies:
Crochet Hook:
H (5.0mm) Crochet Hook, or hook size to obtain gauge
Notions:
Removable stitch markers if needed
Yarn needle to weave in ends
Scissors
Yarn:
We Crochet Dishie Worsted Weight
100% Cotton, 190yds/100g
Colorway swan, or color of choice.
Yardage:
Between 110-135 yds
Abbreviations/Stitches:
blo - back loop only
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
Stsc - stacked single crochet
st(s) -stitch(es)
Gauge:
14.5 sts by 8 rows = 4x4” in
Measurements/Sizes:
11.5 inches by 11 inches
Add or decrease the starting change to adjust the size larger or smaller.
Skill Level:
Beginner Crocheter
Crochet Pattern Notes:
There is no need to chain 1 at the beginning of each row. Without the beginning chain 1, you will have straighter edges. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch in the row.

Moss Stitch Washcloth Body

| 1 | Ch 42 (or in mulitples of 2), skip the first ch, sl st into next ch, hdc into next ch, sl st into next ch; rep from * to * across, turn. | 41 |
| 2 | Ch 1, skip first st, sl st into next st, hdc into next st; rep from * to * across ending with sl st into the turning ch, turn. *Note, you will always sl st into a sl st, and hdc into a hdc. | 41 |
| Repeats | Repeat Row 2 until the desired height. |
Even Moss Stitch Washcloth Border (optional)
| Round | Description |
| 1 | Ch 1, sl st around the perimeter of the washcloth, placing (sl st, ch 1, sl st) on each corner, and one stitch per row on the sides, do not join. |
| 2 | Stsc into the blo of the first stitch, sc in the blo each sl st around placing (sc, ch 1, sc) in each chain st on the corners, fasten of and use an invisible join to finish. Weave in ends. |
