Hello, fall y’all! And what is more fall than pumpkins? If you are a pumpkin flavor hater….I forgive you lol. It's okay if you aren’t about all the pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin Oreo cookies. This is still a great pattern you might enjoy.

The Hello Pumpkin Crochet Pillow is a festive fall décor piece for any chair or couch. And if you love everything pumpkin, also a way to show off that pumpkin pride.

The Hello Pumpkin Crochet Pillow is a colorwork technique project with rewarding results. I highly recommend using bobbins to keep yourself from being wrapped up in tangles.

Hello Pumpkin Crochet Pillow Supplies

Crochet Hook:

5.0 mm (H), or size to obtain gauge

Notions:

• Yarn Needle
• Scissors
• 1”- 1.5 (2.5-3.8 cm) Buttons, 5 needed
• 20x20 Inch Pillow
• ¾ yard burlap if desired

Yardage:

•Approx. 625 Yards [572 meters] if crocheting back as well.

• ch- Chain
• RS- Right Side
• sc- Single Crochet

Gauge:

15 sc sts and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm] with H-hook

Measurements/Sizes:

21 inches (53 cm) wide by 20 inches (51 cm) tall

Notes

- Please note, matching gauge both horizontal and vertical can be difficult. Extra rows can be added at the top if needed. It is more important to match the stitch gauge versus the row gauge. This pattern also has some ease to fit over a pillow.

- This pattern is worked from bottom up in rows and in two pieces. The front panel will also work a button hole flap to secure the top of the crochet pillow. The front and the back panels will be slip stitched together once completed. 

- After the end of each row turn and ch 1. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch. 

- There is a wrong side and a right side to the pillow panels. Use a combination of intarsia and carrying yarn across the back for the color work. Experiment and see what works best for you.

- A burlap back can be used in substitute for a crochet pillow back.

At this point each row adds to the design and we can see where we are headed. I find crochet tapestry similar to doing a puzzle, only less pieces flying everywhere. If you are having a hard time with yarn tangles, try out the yarn bobbins. While it takes a minute to set up, it’s so worth not untangling yarn later.

Now for the finishing touches.

You’ve done the bulk of the work! Now to get the finishing details done so you can proudly display your love for pumpkin and fall. There are two choices for the back panel. One is to create a fabric with yarn. This will work up much faster than the front as we are only using one color.

Another option I’ve fallen in love with is burlap fabric. It is very inexpensive, time saving, and adds a beautiful texture. If you haven’t noticed yet this pillow is reversible, and the burlap really adds a fun feature. Don't be afraid to try it out!

Back Panel:

-With white or color of choice, chain 81 and start the first row in the second chain from hook.

-Single crochet a total of 86 rows to create the back panel. 

-Fasten off and weave in ends. 

OR Continue to below for burlap.

Attaching Panels Together:

Place the front and back panels together with wrong sides facing. If using burlap cut two pieces approximately one inch longer on each side of pillow. Your crochet hook will be able to work through the holes in the burlap.

Using white yarn, slip stitch from top of one side of pillow (where the panels meet or at row 86, not over the flap), around the bottom, and up the other side. I found by slip stitching with a tight tension really makes some crisp edges, but you do not want puckering. Fasten off and weave in ends. Flip pillow so the right side is facing out and the seams are on the inside.

Attaching Buttons:

With the back panel facing, fold front panel down over the top of the back panel. With stitch markers mark the row where each button will be placed. Using a yarn needle and green yarn, sew each button in place. 

Place a 20x20 pillow inside the cover and enjoy!
