Joy Crochet Pillow Cover Pattern

Joy Crochet Pillow

Before we jump right into the Joy Crochet Pillow Cover Pattern, I want to share a little shopping story with you. As my sister and I were shopping in a craft store the other day, she mentioned that there are two types of shoppers around the holidays. One fills their cart with fall clearance and the other with the upcoming Christmas season decor. As I glanced in her cart, I stated she must be the former.

And then this made me think about what kind of shopper I am. I love a good deal, I love sales, and I love feeling like I saved a dollar. BUT, not hold on, I am totally all about the upcoming holiday. If I could grab a cart and stuff it to the brim with full price items I totally would! Feel the same?

As I was glancing at the fall decor with incredible sale pricing and then at the upcoming decor I was excited about, I thought to myself, why not have both? And no, I’m not talking about going out and spending tons of money. I didn’t win the lottery, and I’m guessing you didn’t either. I mean, if we ever do, watch out craft stores!

Joy Crochet Pillow

To have both, I knew I was going to pick a few select fall items I will take home and pack up in the attic right away. I do this because when I unpack it the next year, I get super excited to see the new items still with tags. It’s like an extra birthday.

And for the upcoming season decor? Well, we are makers. We have zero fear about diving in and creating our own amazing decor usually at a fraction of the price and double the quality.

On that note, this is why I wanted to put the Joy Crochet Free Pillow Cover Pattern on the blog! My hope is you enjoy crocheting it as much as I did and it brings you joy not only to see it in your home but to relax through the crafting process.

Are you ready to jump right in and crochet? Before you get started, take a moment to hop on over to this post. Learn about the different ways to do crochet color-work but also for a freebie!

The printable Sheep Yarn Bobbins are super helpful and also cute. You can even cut them out on a cutting machine!

← Row 69-72 : (sc white) x 72

To Finish Front Panel:

-Continue to sc crochet 15 more rows in white.

-Button row: ch 1, sc 2, *ch 3, skip 3, sc 13: repeat from * until last 3 stitches, sc in last 3, turn

-Continue to singe crochet 3 more rows with white.

-Fasten off and weave in ends.

Back Panel:

-To begin chain 73 and start the first row in the second chain from hook.

-Single crochet a total of 72 rows to create the back panel.

-Fasten off and weave in ends.

Attaching Panels Together:

Place the front and back panels together with wrong sides facing. Using either green or white yarn, slip stitch from top of one side of pillow (where the panels meet, not over the flap), around the bottom, and up the other side. I found by slip stitching with a tight tension really makes some crisp edges, but you do not want puckering. Fasten off and weave in ends. Flip pillow so the right side is facing out and the seams are on the inside.

Attaching crochet pillow Panels Together

Attaching Buttons:

With the back panel facing, fold front panel down over the top of the back panel and with stitch markers mark the row where each button will be placed. Using a yarn needle and green yarn, sew each button in place.

Place a 18×18 pillow inside the cover and enjoy!

Red Heart Love yarn is scarce right now. Can you tell me another yarn to use to substitute for the "Love" yarn?

Any worsted weight yarn will do as long as you match gauge.

I love this "joy" pillow pattern. Question for you, could you make a "peace" pillow pattern with the same size and font?

Thanks for the suggestion! I might be able to make that happen next holiday season :)

Awesome pattern! This is just me guessing, but as a left hander I’ll need to do each row in reverse? If there weren’t a word involved I don't think it would matter.

Thank you so much for the insight! Just finished the pillow and never gave being left-handed a thought. It was a bit of a challenge following the pattern backwards, but well worth it!
