Prancing Through the Holidays Deer Blanket
There is no secret that I love designing and making blankets. The Prancing Through the Holidays Deer Blanket combines my love of blankets with my love of the holidays, and the fact that it works up quickly with a good chunky yarn means you can enjoy the cozy comfort that much sooner.

And, of course, the colorwork is rewarding as you work each line. Colorwork crochet is a unique form that combines color and texture to create beautiful works of art. Unlike traditional crochet, which uses a single color of yarn, colorwork crochet involves using multiple colors in the same stitch or row.
This technique allows for more intricate patterns and designs and the ability to blend colors together for a more vibrant effect. Whether you're looking for a new challenge or want to add some pizzazz to your projects, colorwork crochet is sure to be an enjoyable experience!
This pattern uses the intarsia colorwork method. If this is your first time doing crochet colorwork, welcome! And don't be afraid to jump right in. I also have a helpful blogpost to get you started with crochet colorwork: https://brianakdesigns.com/ways-to-colorwork-in-crochet/
If you find that the Prancing Though the Holiday Deer Blanket is just not enough holiday spirit for you I would recommend the Farmhouse Plaid Deer Crochet Pillow Cover or the Red Christmas Truck Pattern for Crochet Table Runner. Also, I would be a bad crochet friend if I didn't recommend the Pine Crochet Christmas Tree Skirt.
This pattern includes both written instructions and an easy-to-follow chart. There is even a tutorial to get you started on your colorwork journey.

More About This Pattern
- Please note matching gauge, both horizontal and vertical, can be difficult. Extra rows can be added at the top if needed, so it is more important to match the stitch gauge versus the row gauge. This pattern also has some ease in fitting over a pillow.
- After the end of each row, turn and ch 1. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Right side of rows is read from right to left. Wrong side rows are read from left to right.
- To change color, work the last yarn over the single crochet in the color of the next stitch.
- Please visit https://brianakdesigns.com/ways-to-colorwork-in-crochet/ for a full tutorial on colorwork as well as a FREE Sheep Yarn Bobbin Printable to assist you with this project. No one loves tangles.
Color A: Cottonwood (or white)
Color B: Light Grey
Color C: Charcoal (or black)
Color D: Red Wine
How to read the colorwork instructions:
The crochet chart is worked from bottom-up.
In the colorwork section Color A will be abbreviated as (A), and Color B as (B). Example: B x 9 = with Color B ssc the next 9 stitches
When the pattern has [..] x 9, this means to repeat the instructions in the parentheses 9 times.
