If you live in a cold climate, you might as well keep your fingers warm and whip up the Deer Fair Isle Crochet Mitten Pattern. Warm hands are crucial to surviving those chilly months. It's a beautiful crochet colorwork accessory that mimics the look of knitting.

The single crochet stitches for these mittens are worked in the center 'V' of each stitch, which results in the split single crochet (ssc) or waistcoat stitch. It helps the colorwork in crochet line up a little bit better. These mittens are worked in the round continuously to avoid an unsightly seam. There is a video tutorial on a similar mitten to help guide you through the main parts of the construction. Check out the Squirrel Crochet Mittens.

The Crochet Hook

The Furls Alpha Series are handmade wood luxurious crochet hooks. I really enjoyed using this one for the smaller colorwork stitches. The thing to remember about hooks is that they are never one size fits all, or one type fits every project. For colorwork with fingering weight yarn, this has become my favorite. Check out the series by clicking on the image below.

The Yarn

I've attempted to crochet some colorwork mittens a few times with a detailed fair isle design, and I finally found the right yarn that shows off those stitches and is a dream to work with. When I first held Twill Fingering by WeCrochet I knew it would be perfect. I cannot express how well this yarn works for this pattern.

Hi! I'm Briana K

Hello, my fellow crafters!
I feel we are all natural-born artists nourishing our talents throughout our entire lives.

I've been fortunate enough to have found a home in the fiber arts community where my passions for crochet, knit, and cross stitch can grow.

I'm a Florida girl for the past decade, but before that, I lived in the Rocky Mountains.
While I love nature and hiking, I've grown extremely fond of the sunny beaches. Read More…
