Colorwork for Unicorn Crochet Pattern
This is a fair isle crochet pattern, creating color work that's sophisticated and chic. The single crochet stitches for these mittens are worked in the center 'V' of each stitch, which results in the split single crochet (ssc) or waistcoat stitch. It helps the colorwork in crochet line up a little bit better.

Working Crochet Mittens in the Round
The Unicorn Crochet Pattern for these mittens is worked in the round continuously to avoid an unsightly seam. There is a video tutorial on a similar mitten design to help guide you through the main parts of the construction. Check out the Squirrel Crochet Mittens and the Deer Crochet Mittens to give you a sense of that.

Unicorn Crochet Mittens Video Tutorial
I always thinks that it helps people to have a video tutorial to go with their patterns. If you have a question, sometimes just seeing it done through video can help you through that part. Therefore, I created a video tutorial for this unicorn crochet pattern.
The Crochet Hook
The Furls Candy shop Series is a perfect pop of rainbow to match your mittens. They are very similar to the Furls Alpha Series which are handmade wood luxurious crochet hooks.
I really enjoyed using this one for the smaller colorwork stitches. The thing to remember about hooks is that they are never one size fits all, or one type fits every project. For colorwork with fingering weight yarn, this has become my favorite.
Check out my guide to choosing crochet hooks.

The Yarn for This Unicorn Crochet Pattern
The yarn is the most important part to the look of these mittens. The WeCrochet Chroma Fingering yarn has some excellent colorways. I think I found the perfect combination for these mittens, but I could also see them in other colorways as well. Or if you wanted solid colors contrasting colors there will still be a dramatic pop. I just like this because it has that rainbow effect which is whimsical like the unicorn itself.
