Construction

Experience crochet happiness with this stylish top-down poncho! First, we start by crocheting the neck ribbing in rows and joining. Then, we’ll work in continuous rounds for the remainder of the poncho. Crafted in one seamless piece with an eye-catching stitch, it’s as cozy as it is fashionable. Made with Wonderfluff yarn, this lightweight yet warm poncho will keep you snug all season long.

Special Stitches

Split Single Crochet (ssc): This stitch is also known as the waistcoat stitch. This stitch is worked as single crochet but where the hook is inserted is the only difference. The hook will be inserted between the ‘V’ of the stitch.

Insert hook between the legs of the stitch (on the back of work the hook should be under the horizontal bar and between the upside-down ‘V’ shape as well), yarn over, pull up a loop to the height of a single crochet, yarn over, pull through both loops on hook.

Keep your hands loose and comfortable. If your hands are starting to hurt, then the tension of the stitch is too tight. When entering the stitch, pull up the loop a bit more than you normally would, it will give the ‘V’ more space for the next round and make working the ssc comfortable.

Pattern Notes

  • The Enchanted Crochet Poncho Body is worked in continuous rounds. To help keep track of
the rounds, place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

  • The instructions and stitch counts are given for the smallest size, with the larger sizes in
    brackets ( ).

  • Before you dive into your project, take a moment to identify the stitch and row counts that
match the size you're making. By highlighting or marking them, you'll save time and effort
later on. Trust us, this small step will make a big difference in your knitting or crochet journey!

  • The neck ribbing can be increased or decreased by crocheting more or fewer rows in increments
of 4. Every 4 rows to the ribbing will add/subtract ½ inch from the neck circumference
and 5 ½ inches from the bottom of the poncho.

Crochet Tip

Did you know that our tension can vary depending on our moods? To ensure that our garments turn out just right, let's maintain consistent sizing. To keep your delicate crocheted garments looking as gorgeous as the day you made them, a little TLC goes a long way! First, read your yarn label - the washing directions should be printed on them! Handwashing in cool water with a gentle detergent is key, followed by laying them flat to dry to maintain their shape. Avoid wringing or hanging, as this can stretch the fibers. With the right care, your beautiful creations will stay soft, cozy, and ready to be admired for years to come. Treat them with love, and they’ll love you back! If you loved the magical stitches used in this poncho, you might want to practice more with the Magical Stitches Holiday Stockings and the Juniper Knit-Look Hat! Both make perfect gifts!

Cheers, and happy crocheting!
