### Why Crochet Fingerless Mittens?

Some people might wonder why we would leave our fingers hanging out of a mitten. But there are so many uses for a fingerless mitten, here are just a few:

- You can still use your fingers to be on your phone, or type on your computer while getting the benefits of warmth.
- It can help those with poor circulation in the hands.
- You can still easily crochet (that's a big one).
- Fingerless mittens still protect your hands from the cold which keeps you productive and comfortable.

#### Notes:

The crochet cactus mittens are worked in the round (continuous) without joining. The mittens start at the first round of the colorwork and then work towards the fingers, leaving space for the thumb. The cuff will be worked last.

When reading the colorwork chart each round is read from right to left.

Yarn Color Abbreviations for written instructions:

A: Camel Twist (Tan)

B: Edamame (Green)

Special Stitches:

Split Stitch (ssc): This stitch is also known as the waistcoat stitch. A tutorial can be found here: split single crochet

All the stitches for this mitten other than the first single crochet round and the first thumb round stitches will be worked in the split stitch.

When decreasing the split stitch follow the same instructions for a single crochet two together but by working the decrease into the center ‘v’s of the stitches.

Use a stitch marker to keep track of rounds. The white box on the mitten chart indicates the thumb hole.
