Construction

The Gemstone Hues Crochet Hat is worked from the bottom up. We’ll start by making the ribbing with simple stitches. Then, we’ll join the edges and begin working in the round with the granny stitch to create gorgeous colorwork diamonds. A pompom can be placed on top as an added flourish. Stacked Single Crochet (Stsc): Do NOT chain, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops, insert hook in the vertical bar below, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops on the hook.

Written Crochet Pattern Instructions

Beanie Ribbing

With G (4.0mm) Hook & Color A

Row 1:

Ch 15 (17, 19) (21, 23, 23), sc in second chain from hook and in each across, turn. 14 (16, 18) (20, 22, 22) sts

Row 2:

Working in the blo, sc in each st across, turn.

Repeats:

Repeat Row 2 for a total of 42 (48, 60) (66, 72, 78) rows. Slip Stitch Row 1 to the current row by working through the blo of the current row and the blo loop from the first row.

The brim band should measure approx. 10 ½ (13, 14) (16, 17 ½, 19 ½) inches wide by 3 (3 ½, 3 ¾) (4, 4 ½, 4 ½) inches tall.

Working Along the Brim

With H (5.0mm) Hook - for the rest of hat

For this next step we will be working along the edge of the ribbing, placing one stitch per row as follows:

Row 1:

Sc into first edge space, *insert your hook into the left bar of the sc st, then insert into the next row space on the edge of the ribbing. Yarn over and pull a loop through the ribbing fabric and also through one loop on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook. Repeat from * all the way around the edge of the brim, join. The rest of the pattern will be worked in rounds. | 42 (48, 60) (66, 72, 78) sts

Rnd 2:

Working into the first space, Stsc 1, 2 dc in same space, *with Color C 3 dc in next space, with Color B 3 dc in next space; repeat from * around until the last space, with Color C 3 dc in last space, join and turn. Fasten off Color B.

Rnd 3:

Working into the first space, Stsc, 2 dc in same space, *3 dc in next space; repeat from * around, join and turn.

Rnd 4:

Working into the first space, Stsc, 2 dc in same space, *with Color D 3 dc in next space, with Color C 3 dc in next space; repeat from * around until the last space, with Color D 3 dc in last space, join to top of Stsc with Color C, turn. Fasten off Color D.

Rnd 5:

Repeat Rnd 3, joining with Color B at the end of the Rnd.

Rnd 6:

Repeat Rnd 2, joining at the end of the Rnd with Color A. Fasten off all other colors.

Rnd 7:

Working into the first space, Stsc, 2 dc in same space, *3 dc in next space; repeat from * around, join and turn.

Repeat Rnd 7 until there are 9 (11, 13) (14, 15, 15) total rounds.

Last Rnd:

Joining the Top

Fasten off leaving a 12-15 inch tail. With a yarn needle, weave through the front loop of every dc stitch around the hat. Pull the opening closed and weave in the end.
