Stacked Single Crochet (Stsc): Do NOT chain, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops, insert hook in the vertical bar below, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops on the hook.

Working Along the Brim

With H 5mm Hook – for rest of hat

Rnd 1:

Working along the edge of the ribbing, sl st one stitch per row, join and turn. The rest of the pattern will be worked in rounds. | 42 (48, 60) (66, 72, 78) sts

Granny Stitch Colorwork

Rnd 1 (WS):

Working in the flo for this round (grabbing strands of extra fabric to make it sturdier): Stsc, 2 dc in same st, skip 2 sts, *3 in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * around, join to top of Stsc with Color B. | 42 (48, 60) (66, 72, 78) sts; 14 (16, 20) (22, 24, 26) granny groups

Rnd 5:

Working into the space to the right of the join, Stsc, 2 dc in same space, *3 dc in next space; repeat from * around, join to top of Stsc with Color B.

Repeats:

Repeat Rnds 2-5 until there are 9 (11, 13) (14, 15, 15) total rounds.

Last Rnd:

Keeping in the same colorwork pattern repeat, replace each 3 dc with 2 dc for this round. | 28 (32, 40) (44, 48, 52) sts

Joining the Top

Fasten off leaving a 12-15 inch tail. With a yarn needle, weave through the front loop of every dc stitch around the hat. Pull the opening closed and weave in the end.

Finishing

Weave in any stray ends. Attach a pompom to the top of the hat if desired, or add a perosnalized tag, and wear. Keep cozy all season! 

To maintain the gorgeous look and feel of your new handcrafted hat, remove the pompom and gently wash the hat in cool water using a mild detergent (either by hand or in the washing machine – make sure to read your yarn label to see what is recommended).
