Construction
The Wheat Stitch™ Pocket Shawl Crochet Pattern is worked flat in rows, lengthwise, using the easy-to-memorize 4-row Wheat Stitch™ repeat, which means your starting chain determines the full length of the shawl.
Once the shawl body is complete, the pockets are made in the same simple stitch repeat. Everything is then lightly blocked to help the stitches relax and settle into shape. Then, sew your pockets to the ends of your shawl, creating a cozy wrap with functional pockets that are perfect for warming hands, holding your phone, or stashing snacks (no judgment).

Pattern Notes
- The ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning (and end) of the row is recommended.
- If an even longer shawl is desired, add chains and rows as desired.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About the Wheat Stitch™ Pocket Shawl Crochet Pattern
Q: Is this pocket shawl beginner-friendly?
Yes! Confident beginners will feel right at home with the Wheat Stitch™ Pocket Shawl Crochet Pattern. The stitch pattern is repetitive and easy to memorize, making it great for relaxing crochet sessions.
Q: Can I customize the size?
Absolutely. Since the shawl is worked lengthwise, it’s easy to adjust the starting chain to make it longer or shorter to suit your style.
Q: What yarn works best for this pattern?
This pattern is very flexible! Bulky weight yarn creates a thick, ultra-cozy shawl, while worsted weight yarn results in a lighter, drapier wrap. Always check your gauge and adjust hook size as needed.
Q: Are the pockets optional?
Technically, yes… but they’re highly encouraged. 😉 The shawl looks lovely without them, but the pockets add both function and charm.
Q: Is this a good gift pattern?
100% yes! It’s wearable, practical, and feels extra special as a handmade gift.

You can try the shawl on and pin the pockets in place, on the right side of the fabric, before sewing to find the perfect spot. Slip your hands inside to test the placement and enjoy the cozy feel.
Place one pocket on each end of the shawl, matching the direction of the wheat stitch.
Make sure the pockets are straight and evenly placed on both sides. Use locking stitch markers, safety pins, or scrap yarn to hold each corner of the pocket in place.
Thread the tail end onto the yarn needle. Start at the top corner of the pocket. Work small, neat whip stitches or mattress stitches along the side of the pocket. Sew down the first side, across the bottom, and up the second side. Keep the stitches consistent, but do not pull too tightly so the fabric does not pucker.
Do not sew the top edge – leave the top open to form the pocket. Once the pocket
is attached, weave in all ends.

Finishing
Slip your new pocket shawl around your shoulders and enjoy the instant boost of cozy confidence. Let the pockets land right where your hands rest. They are perfect for warming fingers or hiding a tiny snack. Your secret is safe here.
The Wheat Stitch™ Pocket Shawl is the perfect blend of comfort and practicality. With its rich texture, customizable length, and cozy pockets, it’s one of those crochet projects that feels just as good to make as it does to wear. Dress it up with jeans or toss it over pajamas for crochet time. Wear it loose and flowy or snug and dramatic. And when someone asks where you bought it, enjoy saying you made it.
Now, tuck your hands into those pockets and enjoy every cozy compliment coming your way.
