Hooded Scarf Construction
You’ll begin at the crown of the hood, working flat in rows to shape a soft, comfortable hood that frames the face beautifully. Once the hood is complete, the fabric is split at the center, and each side is worked separately to form the scarf panels.
From there, the scarf sections are crocheted downward from the hood edge, continuing in rows while gradually decreasing to create gentle, tapered points at each end. When you reach the final row, your hood and scarf are already connected—no sewing, no extra steps, and no finishing stress.

Special Stitches
Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch/space, yarn over again and pull up a long loop, yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space, yarn over again and pull up a long loop (5 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through the first 4 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.
Pattern Notes
- For a full tutorial on the Wheat Stitch, visit:
https://brianakdesigns.com/how-to-crochet-the-wheat-stitch/ - Using a stitch marker at the beginning (and end) of the row is recommended.
- If an even longer scarf is desired, add rows on each side before decreasing.
- You can create a striped look by using one color for all the puff st rows and another for all the blo sc rows. Change colors by yarning over with the new color when making the last stitch of the row. Keep both colors attached and carry the unused yarn up the inside of the hood without fastening off.

Finishing
You are so close you can almost feel the snuggles.
All that is left to do is weave in your yarn tails and tuck them in neatly like little secret threads. Give your hooded scarf a gentle block so the stitches relax, the points settle beautifully, and the whole piece takes on its final, finished shape.
Once it is dry, wrap it around your shoulders, pull up the hood, and enjoy that warm, handmade hug. You officially made a wearable cozy cloud. Go you!
The Wheat Stitch™ Crochet Hooded Scarf is the kind of project that reminds you why you love crochet in the first place—comforting stitches, thoughtful design, and a finished piece you’ll actually use.
If you’re craving a cozy winter accessory that’s relaxing to make and easy to wear, this pattern is ready when you are. Grab your yarn, settle in, and enjoy every stitch.
