Modern Honeycomb Shawl Crochet Free Pattern
The many beautiful repeating patterns in nature have inspired the Modern Honeycomb Shawl. Bees honeycomb is one of the most amazing ones. You can't go wrong with drawing inspiration from that, which is exactly what I did when I created this easy crochet shawl pattern.

I used a repeating hexagon shape to create the design. As you can see, it starts in one solid color and flows into another variegated color. It's almost like the bees carry that color as they fly from flower to flower. And if you love relaxing crochet shawls, also check out the On The Bias Suzette Shawl or the Lightweight Crochet Shawl.
Do you knit? There is the Modern Honeycomb Knit Shawl!
Can I substitute yarns for this crochet shawl?
The short answer is YES! When it comes to accessories, we have a lot more wiggle room with gauge. To show you that you can, I've worked up the Modern Honeycomb Shawl with a dk weight yarn. I really enjoyed working with this wool and acrylic blend. I used a larger hook and the drape is amazing. Check out Yarnalia Wonder Yarn Here.
The Yarn That Inspired This Design
I have to tell you about the yarn dyers behind the inspiration of the Modern Honeycomb Shawl. I firmly believe in supporting and uplifting other makers and creators. Recently some local dyers did the same for each other and organized a really fun event called the Yarn Lounge here in Central Florida.
It was the perfect time for me to purchase some new squishy yarn and work with the local market. But the cool thing is you don’t have to be in Central Florida to enjoy these stunning yarn options. Head on over to Olive and Two Ewe Studios to view the yarn used in this pattern as well as lots of other beautiful choices.
Or use up some pretty yarn in your stash that has been sitting around waiting for the perfect project! I’ve also included a few substitute suggestions in the pattern as well, but one of my favorites is the WeCrochet Hawthorne Yarn in different weights.

Finishing Your Crochet Shawl
Fasten off and weave in all ends. As you complete your Modern Honeycomb Shawl, it's essential to pay attention to the finishing touches to truly showcase the beauty of the filet crochet stitches. Blocking is a crucial step in the process that can help enhance the drape and definition of your shawl.
Want an easier blocking experience? Get a block combs for getting a clean sharp look.
Here are some tips for blocking filet crochet stitches:
Gently wet the shawl: Submerge your shawl in lukewarm water, allowing it to soak for a few minutes until it's fully saturated. Be careful not to agitate or wring the fabric, as this can damage the delicate stitches.
Remove excess water: Gently press down on the shawl to squeeze out any excess water, being careful not to twist or distort the fabric.
Pin in place: Lay your shawl out on a blocking mat or towel, gently stretching it to the desired dimensions. Use rust-proof blocking pins to secure the edges and any points or motifs, ensuring that the shawl maintains its shape.
Allow to dry: Let your shawl dry completely in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. This may take several hours or even overnight, depending on the humidity levels in your environment.
Enjoy your beautifully blocked shawl: Once your shawl is dry, carefully remove the blocking pins and admire the stunning results. Your filet crochet stitches will be beautifully defined, and your shawl will be ready to be worn with pride.
With these tips in mind, you can ensure that your Modern Honeycomb Shawl truly shines, opening up the filet crochet stitches. And now you have a new wardrobe piece, something truly special to gift that you made with your own two hands.
