The Desert Cactus Mosaic Crochet Free Blanket came about with wanting to earth tones, and desert boho was the way to go, capturing the scenes and aspects of a desert. While I could have chosen any colorwork technique to bring the crochet blanket to life, I have been greatly inspired by Mosaic Crochet lately and knew it was the way to go.

Notes for Success

The Desert Cactus Mosaic Crochet Blanket is such a fun adventure to work up with the many different patterns neatly displayed in each section. This style of mosaic will only work one color per row. There is no need to fasten off colors when changing every two rows, simply carry it up the side. The border will be worked over these strands.

For this style of crochet I do not chain 2 to make the 1 chain space as other patterns do. I simply chain 1 for each skipped square loosely and continue on.

If you want to hide your chains on the back of your work, to not be a choking/entanglement risk, work the mdc around the chain stitches so that the chain is incorporated into the mdc. Each section has both the written and chart instructions on the following pages.

Special Stitches:
mdc: A mosaic double crochet is worked as a double crochet stitch, but it will be worked into the skipped stitch three rows below. This stitch will be worked on the front (or right sides) or the blanket.

Set Up: With color A, rotate your work 90 degrees, *ch 2, sl st until next corner*; repeat from * to * around.

Work approx one sl st per row on the sides, there will be a total of 220 sts per the sides of the blanket, and 130 sts across the top and bottom. (700 sts)

Rnd 1: St sc, hdc until next corner, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) into corner chain space, join. Each round will increase the stitch count by 8 sts.

The hdc stitches will now be worked in the third loop for the rest of the blanket edging.

Rnd 2: With Color B: Stsc, hdc in third loop until next corner, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) into corner chain space, join.
