Pattern Notes
- Before you begin your project, take a moment to review the pattern and identify the stitch and row counts that match the size you’re working with.
- A ch 1 at the beginning of a row is not counted as a stitch.
- The Block Stitch Blanket is made with a stiping yarn and a solid color yarn, but feel free to use any colors and striping you wish! The thickness of stripes will vary with blanket sizes.
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning of each row is recommended.
FAQs About the Block Stitch Crochet Blanket
Q: Is the block stitch good for beginners?
A: Yes! If you’ve mastered chains and double crochet, you’re ready for the block stitch. It’s simple but creates a gorgeous effect.
Q: How much yarn will I need?
A: It depends on the size you’re making. A baby blanket may only require 2–3 skeins, while a large throw or bedspread will need more. Check your stash—you may already have plenty on hand!
Q: Can I use bulky yarn instead of worsted?
A: Absolutely! Just know it will create a chunkier, heavier blanket. Adjust your hook size accordingly.
Q: What border works best?
A: I recommend the puff stitch border for texture, but you can also keep it simple with single crochet.
Q: Can this blanket be machine-washed?
A: Yes—just choose a machine-washable yarn like acrylic. This makes it durable and family-friendly.

Sizing Tip
- The Block Stitch Crochet Blanket has a stitch multiple of 3+2. Chain your desired width using those numbers as your guide, then make it as long as you prefer.
- Your striped sections might vary based on how long you make your blanket. Use your judgement! Or, if you prefer, don’t add stripes. This blanket would look gorgeous in a solid color, as well.
Finishing

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Block the blanket by either pinning in place and steaming, or getting damp and pinning. This can be done with blocking mats and pins, or with a towel on your bedding with sewing pins on hand. Blocking is like ironing your clothes – it gives all your hard work that crisp look. It also opens up your stitches.
