Construction

The Wheat Stitch™ Crochet Snail body is crocheted seamlessly in one piece with two strands of yarn held together for extra squish. We start at the head and work downward toward the tail.

  • The head is crocheted in continuous rounds first, with safety eyes and antenna added before stuffing.
  • After the head is stuffed, the body grows gradually with simple shaping (no stuffing added).
  • The piece finishes at the tail, where the Wheat Stitch™ Heart shell will be attached.

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch/space, yarn over again and pull up a long loop, yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space, yarn over again and pull up a long loop (5 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through the first 4 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.

Pattern Notes

  • Warning: Safety eyes are not suitable for children under three years old, as they can pose a choking hazard if they become detached. Adult supervision is recommended. Feel free to embroider the eyes.
  • A ch 1 at the beginning of a row is not counted as a stitch.
  • Using a stitch marker at the beginning (or end) of the round is recommended.
  • Invisible Join: Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-8 inch tail. Using your yarn needle, insert the needle under both loops of the second stitch of the round. Pull the yarn through gently, then insert the needle back into the center of the last stitch you made, going straight down through the middle (where the yarn exited).

Snail Head & Body

The Snail will be worked continuously without joining. Using a stitch marker to keep track of rounds is helpful. For tighter stitches, use the hook-over-yarn method when working the stitches.

Attaching the Heart & Body

Using a strand of the body color yarn and a yarn needle, begin at the back of the Snail’s Head. Position the Heart on the weighted side and stitch it in place, working neatly along the curved edge. Continue sewing the Body and Heart together along one side of the heart, securing firmly to the Snail Tail as you go.

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in all ends, because even snails like to look polished before spreading the love!

Crocheted snail and tree decorations in red, white, and pink sit on a wooden surface, while a Wheat Stitch crochet heart pattern garland hangs above.

The Wheat Stitch™ Crochet Snail Pattern is the perfect mix of cozy, cute, and relaxing.

Whether you’re stitching a Valentine’s Day snail with a heart shell or making a tiny emotional-support friend, this pattern is a joyful reminder that slow stitches make the sweetest projects. So take your time, enjoy the squish, and crochet at a perfectly snail-approved pace.
