What Is Farmhouse Decor?
Right now farmhouse home decor is hot and so many people have fallen in love with this style. The farmhouse style is what I had in mind when I was designing this table runner. But what is farmhouse decor?
Spacejoy explains that farmhouse decor is about simplicity, coziness, warmth, practicality, neutral colors, and vintage inspiration. Moreover, it’s about craftsmanship. So simply by making your own crochet table runner by hand, you’re embracing farmhouse decor.
Plus, they add that “it’s all about being open and inviting.” What’s more inviting than a Thanksgiving table runner that literally expresses thanks across it. It’s a warm, cozy reminder to everyone at your dinner table (even if that’s just you and your family) that you are grateful to be there together. That’s what farmhouse decor is all about.
I wanted the perfect lettering to be displayed across my table. So I worked hard on this Thanksgiving table runner free crochet pattern to make sure that the lettering embraced the details that make up farmhouse decor.

By the way, have you seen the Harvest Crochet Pillow Cover? While I display my pillow in a different room, by using the same yarn it brings a cohesive look to my decorating. During a different season of the year, I could perhaps put the Thankful crochet table runner on a coffee table in the same room as the pillow. Or I could the table runner across the bottom of a guest bed along with the pillow. Although designed as a Thanksgiving table runner, this free crochet pattern is actually very versatile.
I actually have quite a few farmhouse decor patterns here on the site so if that’s something you’re into, search around and see what you can discover.

Thanksgiving Table Runner Crochet Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is worked from the bottom up in rows and in single crochet sts.
- After the end of each row turn and ch 1. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Since there are a wrong side and a right side to the table runner, I used a combination of intarsia and carrying yarn across the back for the colorwork. Experiment and see what works best for you.

I had so much fun making this, I’ll never make plain old fringe again! I’m thankful for your generosity ~ you are so sweet to share!
For the border, it says to repeat from * to * but there are no stars.
Fixed, thanks so much for letting me know.
Hey there! Absolutely love this! I’m having a hard time finding the right yarn. If you don’t mind…what weight and yardage is the vanna’s? I’m going to try to find something similar so I can make this for my grandmother and mother in law!
This site is really helpful for yarn info and substitutes. It’s often my go to. This link should take you to the info: https://yarnsub.com/yarns/lion_brand/vannas_choice_solids_heathers_and_twists
I am just working the border and am a little confused. You say “sc in first, ch 1, skip 1, s in next” is the single “s” supposed to be a slip stitch, or a single crochet?
Thanks!
It’s a sc, sorry about that type, updated the blog 🙂
Hey there! I had your free download but now the page is gone. I guess I was supposed to save it (I don’t have a printer). Any chance I can have it again? If not it’s ok, I can still use the one with the ads
I’m so sorry but it was only for a limited time. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter so you can know right away if it’s ever on this type of promo again. Thanks
Hi,
Absolutely love your projects! I am between a beginner and intermediate. I really think I can tackle this project and understand the technique and pattern. My dilemma is, I don’t know how to calculate how many bobbins I will need. Can you help me please? Thank you ?? ?
Hi Briana
Thank you for this beautiful design. Quick question, I’m left handed and crochet in the opposite direction. Will the design still work? Or will my “thankful” be in a mirror image? Lol
Thanks
Simple work it using the chart starting from the bottom left-hand corner. 🙂
This is why I love when there’s a chart included, as I’m also left handed!
Thank you very much! This is such a great pattern, and adaptable too. I appreciate both the charted and written instructions. I’ve subscribed on YouTube and am looking forward to your videos.
Thanks for following!
I noticed some of the rows have just a letter no number afterwards.
On those rows it’s simply 1 sc stitch 🙂
I am trying to make this for the first time. Having issues with Row 18, A27, B11. The graph says B9 but written says B11? Am I reading it wrong?
If graph is right would be Row 18-A27, B9, A10, B4, A4 and so on? Not sure if I’m messed up? LOL
When looking at the chart and reading it from the left to the right, the written instructions are correct. It would be Row 18 [WS]: A27, B11, A9, B3, A4, B2, A, B3, A2, B2, A3, B3, A3, B3, A4, B2, A2, B3, A2, B2, A4, B2, A, B8, A6, B2, A, B2, A6, B3, A3, B2, A4, B4, A10, B9, A32
Am working on this as my first table runner and looking ahead to the border, is it possible the first * in border row 2 should be after the ch1 rather than before? Do you really mean to ch1 in every repeat? Thanks for the fun pattern, can’t wait to try the fringe.
Yes 🙂 For the border I changed up the stitches to be more of a moss stitch 🙂
Made your table runner for our Thanksgiving table this year 2020 and to create a family tradition. Love it but ended up having to order a 4th skein of the oatmeal yarn. I ended up being short for last two rows, border and fringe. Used up rest as coasters.
Thank you! Can’t wait to start. My Niece will love it.
