? FAQ: Wheat Stitch™ Keychain & Lanyard
Q: What skill level is this pattern?
A: This pattern is advanced beginner-friendly! It’s also a great way to familiarize yourself with the Wheat Stitch!
Q: How much yarn do I need?
A: Only a small amount — around 25–40 yards, depending on your chosen length and width.
Q: Can I use acrylic yarn instead of cotton?
A: Absolutely! Cotton gives a firm finish, but acrylic will work if that’s what you have on hand. Just keep in mind that cotton offers more structure and durability for everyday wear.
Q: What hardware do I need?
A: You’ll need simple keychain or lanyard hardware. You can find them online or at most craft stores — look for swivel hooks, D-rings, or lobster clasps for easy attachment.
Q: Can I sell finished keychains or lanyards made from this pattern?
A: Yes! You’re welcome to sell finished items — I just ask that you credit Briana K Designs as the designer.
Pattern Notes
- A ch 1 at the beginning of a row is not counted as a stitch.
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning (or end) of the row is recommended.
- Weave in your ends neatly on the wrong side.

Seaming
Insert one end of the fabric through the desired hardware clasp. With your hook and yarn, slip stitch the open ends together and fasten off, leaving a long tail. Slide the clasp so it rests against the slip-stitched edge. Using your yarn needle and the tail end, sew along the edge of the clasp to secure it firmly in place.
