Construction
The Circle Leaf Lace Crochet Cardigan is worked in sections to create a clean, structured fit while keeping the process approachable and enjoyable.
You’ll begin with the bottom ribbing and body panel, building a solid foundation for the garment. From there, the first front panel is worked directly onto the body, followed by the back panel and second front panel to form the main shape.

Once the panels are complete, the shoulders are seamed to bring everything together. The sleeves are then crocheted directly onto the cardigan in a top-down construction, with gradual decreases to create a comfortable, tapered fit.
To finish, a front edge ribbing is added, giving the cardigan a polished, cohesive look. The result is a lightweight, lacework garment that feels structured, wearable, and easy to style.

Stacked Double Crochet (Stdc): Do NOT chain, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops, [insert hook in the vertical bar below, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops on the hook] twice.
Stacked Cluster (St cluster): *Ch 3, [yo and insert your hook into the 3rd ch from the hook, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through two loops] twice, you and pull through all the loops on the hook; repeat from * one more time.
❓ FAQs About the Circle Leaf Lace Crochet Cardigan Pattern
Is this crochet cardigan beginner-friendly?
🍃 This pattern is best for confident beginners or intermediate crocheters who are comfortable with stitch patterns and garment construction.
What is the Circle Leaf Stitch?
🍃 The Circle Leaf Crochet Stitch is a visually striking, textured pattern that creates angled, stacked cluster stitches reminiscent of layered leaves or circular petals. Also known as the Diagonal Leaf Grid Stitch, this stitch pattern reminds me of the intricate designs found in Amish wedding quilts. The way the clusters stack and angle across the fabric creates a sense of movement and layered geometry, much like the carefully pieced motifs in traditional quilt patterns. And, of course, I have a step-by-step tutorial for how to make it!

Can I adjust the length of the cardigan?
🍃 Yes. The construction allows you to easily customize the length to suit your style.
Do I need to seam anything?
🍃 Minimal seaming is required. Most of the cardigan body is worked in one piece, and we will work the sleeves directly onto the body.
Can I change the yarn weight?
🍃 This pattern was specifically written for a sport-weight yarn to keep the drape flowy and the feel light and lacy. At this time, there are no support systems in place to help modify that.
How long will it take to make this cardigan?
🍃 Timing will vary depending on your pace, size, and how much time you can dedicate, but most crocheters can expect this to be a multi-day project rather than a quick make. Many find it comes together in about a week of relaxed stitching, while others may spread it out over a couple of weeks. The stitch pattern is easy to settle into, which makes it a great project to pick up and work on in shorter sessions whenever you have time.

Yarn Talk: Hobbii Acacia
If you’re looking for a yarn that really lets this stitch shine, Hobbii Acacia is a beautiful choice.

It has that perfect balance of softness and structure, so the lacework holds its shape while draping nicely when worn. The stitch definition is crisp (so you can actually see the Circle Leaf texture), but the finished fabric still feels light and breathable.
It’s also a great option for warmer-weather garments because it doesn’t feel heavy or stiff, making it ideal for a cardigan you’ll want to wear throughout spring and summer.
If you want your finished piece to feel polished, wearable, and just a little elevated, this yarn is a solid pick.
🌿 Caring for Lace Crochet Garments
Lightweight lace garments are easy to care for—you just need to treat them a little gently to keep them looking their best:
- Hand wash or use a gentle cycle with cold water
- Lay flat to dry to maintain shape and prevent stretching
- Avoid hanging, especially when wet
- Light steam blocking helps open the lace and refresh the fabric
- Store folded rather than hung to preserve structure
A little care goes a long way—and keeps your handmade cardigan looking beautiful wear after wear.
