You asked for it, and I'm delivering the Crochet Knit Purl Free Hat Pattern. After the viral TikTok video, I have had so many requests for this stitch in a pattern. When I posted the video, I already had patterns planned and had been enjoying this stitch for months.

My friend Shawna really wanted me to try a double slip stitch brim, so I did! I've got two brim options for you to try on this hat. If you are feeling adventurous try out the double slip stitch, it's in the video tutorial as well.

While this stitch mimics the 1x1 knit rib, it doesn't have the properties of ribbing. It lays like a flat fabric with a great drape. But it's not as flexible as a traditional rib but has a great quality for garments and home decor.

Crochet Knit Purl Free Hat Pattern Supplies

Crochet Hook:

5.0mm (H hook), or hook to obtain gauge

Notions:

Removable stitch markers if needed
Yarn needle to weave in ends
Scissors
Faux Fur Pompom

WeCrochet Swish Worsted Weight,
100% Superwash
Merino Wool, 110 yds/100m, 50g

1 Ball for all sizes.

Yardage:

Newborn: 105 yds (1 skein)
Baby: 150 yds (2 skeins)
Toddler: 175 yds (2 skeins)
Child/Small Adult: 200 yds (2 skeins)
Adult: 250 yds (3 skeins)

blo - back loop only
ch - chain
dss - double slip stitch
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
ssc - split single crochet

Gauge:

16 sts by 18 rows =
4x4” in stitch pattern

The Crochet Knit Purl Hat is worked from the bottom up. It starts with a ribbing (two options available)
and then is joined and worked in the round. A pompom can be placed on top as an added flourish. If you would like to make your own faux fur pompom, click HERE.


The Ch 1 at the beginning of rows for the ribbing is not necessary and can be omitted.

Joining the Top

Fasten off leaving a 12-15 inch tail. With a yarn needle, weave through the front loop of every ssc stitch around the hat. Pull the opening closed and weave in the end.

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in ends. Attach a pompom to the top if desired and wear.
