I love those last-minute holiday crafts. And this one includes instructions for both a crochet coaster and ornament! This pattern also comes with a video tutorial to guide you through the important steps. Whip up a cute wreath ornament for your tree or a coaster for your tea or hot cocoa. Can't you tell Marlow the hamster loves it too! Season coasters are an excellent way to update your holiday decor, and it's functional as well. One of my favorite fall coaster is the Pumpkin with Leaf Coasters, it's so unique!

Abbreviations/Stitches:

BLO -back loop only
Ch -chain
FLO -front loop only
Hdc -half double crochet
Inc. - increase
Lp(s) -loop(s)

Gauge:
16 sts by 10 rows = 4” square in hdc stitches

Notes:

The ornmant and the coaster use similar stitches to create two different looks. Each can use the same yarn, but for an absorbent coast consider a cotton yarn.

The chain can be omitted from the beginning of each round if the first hdc is replaced with a Stacked Single Crochet:

Special Stitches:
Puff Stitch: Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull lp through st and make lp same height as previous sts in working row, (yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull lp through st and make lp same height as working row) twice, yo, pull through all 7 lps on hook

Center for the Ornament and the Coaster:

Rnd 1: With Ivory (or color of choice) yarn ch 1, hdc 10 into the Magic Circle, join. | 10 sts

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2hdc in each stitch around, join. | 20 sts

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *2hdc in first, hdc in next*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 30sts

For Ornament stop here and go to Braided Wreath.

Row 4: Ch 1, *2hdc in first, hdc in next 2*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 40 sts

Row 5: Ch 1, *2hdc in first, hdc in next 3*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 50 sts

Row 6: Repeat Row 5 (Puff Row). | 70 sts

Braided Wreath:

Rnd 1: With Wreath Heather (green) yarn ch 1, *skip the first st, hdc in the next, work a puff st into the skipped st*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 30 sts for ornament, 50 sts for coaster.

Rnd 2: Turn and ch 1, *skip the first st, hdc in the next, work a puff st into the skipped st*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 30 sts for ornament, 50 sts for coaster.

For Coaster stop here and go to Finishing.

Rnd 3: Turn and with Oyster (cream) yarn ch 1, *2hdc in first, hdc in next 2*; repeat from * to * around, join. | 40 sts

How to Add French Knots:

If desired use the French Knot tutorial and red or green yarn to create red berries on the ornament or coaster wreath.
Fasten off and weave in all ends. Lightly block and display under your tree.

Either create a crochet I-cord and sew to the top of the ornament or use a Furls Lucet Fork to create a cord. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
