Construction
The Wheat Stitch™ Chick crochet pattern is worked in one piece, making it a smooth and satisfying project with very little finishing required.
1. Start at the Base: You’ll work upward from the bottom point in joined and turned rounds, building the body and creating the textured Wheat Stitch™ fabric as you go.
2. Shape the Chick: As the body grows, the simple increases create structure and dimension, keeping the body balanced while maintaining that sweet rounded look.
3. Form the Heart Top: At the top of the body, the stitches are divided into two sections. Each side is worked separately to form the two rounded curves of the heart shape.
4. Add the Features: Before closing the top, add the chick’s eyes and mouth, and partially stuff the body so it holds its shape.
5. Finish the Chick: Once both sides of the heart are complete, close the top and add a small amount of final fluff to create the chick’s soft little wings.
If you want to make a bigger chick, feel free to change the yarn weight and hook size, or even use the Wheat Stitch™ Heart pattern! (And while you’re at it, you could make a cute Snail to match!)

Pattern Notes
- One of the great things about crocheting amigurumi is the freedom to experiment with any yarn you love, from fingering weight to bulky! Simply adjust your hook size to match your yarn choice, and have fun creating!
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning (or end) of the round is recommended.
- Warning: If you choose to add eyes, safety eyes are not suitable for children under three years old, as they can pose a choking hazard if they become detached. Adult supervision is recommended. Feel free to embroider the eyes.
- A ch 1 at the beginning of a row is not counted as a stitch.

Second Top of Heart
Rnd 1:
Leaving a long tail, join the yarn in the blo to the next unworked st with the right side of the heart facing. Ch 1, blo sc the next 20 sts in the Rnd, join to the first st and turn. | 20 sts
Note: Leave the yarn tail on the outside of the work, positioned between the two top curves of the heart, so it can be used later to seam the gap.
Rnds 2-5:
Repeat Rnds 2-5 of the First Top of Heart, placing weighted beads along the base side of the heart (if desired), and stuffing the heart with fiberfill as you go. Use the tail in the center of the heart to close the hole between the two tops.
Fluffy Wings
Cut 4 strands of yarn, approximately 7 inches long. Using your crochet hook, attach the strands to the center side of the Chick at Rnd 8 with a lark’s head knot (or knot of your choice). The ends will be trimmed later, so don’t worry if they feel long.
Carefully separate the yarn fibers to create a fluffy texture. Hold the base of the knot very tight so the next steps do not pull on the structure of the Chick. Using a piece of scratchy Velcro, a small comb, or even a pet brush, gently brush the yarn until the desired level of fluffiness is achieved. Then ut down to the desired length.
Repeat for the other side of the Chick.

Finishing
Time to fluff, tweak, and admire your tiny Chick masterpiece. Weave in any remaining ends and give the fluff a gentle tease so it looks soft, cozy, and just the right amount of extra. Adjust the eyes and beak if needed, because personality matters.
The Wheat Stitch™ Chick crochet pattern is a perfect addition to your spring stitching list. Its cozy texture, one-piece construction, and adorable heart shape make it a fun project that’s both satisfying to crochet and delightful to display. Just don’t be surprised if one chick turns into a whole flock.
