Stitch Search: A Free Crochet Word Search You Can Play Right Here

Stitch Search crochet word search game with crochet stitch names circled in the letter grid

Open Stitch Search in the Briana K Stitch app!

Stitch Search is a free crochet word search, and you can play it right here on this page. No account, no download, no sign-up. Just a grid of letters and a list of crochet words hiding in it.

Here’s why these games exist. Sometimes your hands need a break from yarn, but you don’t really want a break from yarn. Maybe you’re stuck in a doctor’s office without your project bag, or your wrists are done for the day. You still want to be in the yarn world, so we made games for exactly that. They’re all crochet, they’re all free, and there are 20 of them now.

Stitch Search is the one for word people. Pick a word pack, pick how big you want the board, and start circling. Stitches, yarn, Halloween, amigurumi, colors. There’s a pack for whatever your brain’s in the mood for.

What Stitch Search Is

It’s a classic word search with a crochet twist. Every word in the list is hiding somewhere in the grid, running in a straight line. Find them all and you win the round.

The words are all crochet. The Stitches pack has things like Bobble, Crocodile, Herringbone, and Lemon Peel. The Crochet talk pack has Frog, Rip It, Magic Ring, and, yes, Yarn Barf. If you crochet, you already know these words. Now you just have to find them.

Up top you’ll see two counters: how many words you’ve found and how long you’ve been at it. The timer starts the second a new puzzle loads.

The goal. Find every word in the list. That’s the whole goal.

Circling a word. Drag from the first letter of a word to the last letter. The game draws a colored band over it and crosses it off your list. Each word you find gets its own color, so the board fills up like a little color chart.

Tap instead. If dragging isn’t your thing (or you’re on a phone with a coffee in the other hand), tap the first letter, then tap the last letter. Same result.

Shared letters. Words can cross each other and share letters, so don’t skip a letter just because it’s already circled.

The game has its own How to play section right under the board. Tap it any time you want a quick refresher.

Need a Nudge? Use a Hint

Every puzzle gives you three hints. Tap Hint and the first letter of a word you haven’t found yet wiggles and turns berry so you know where to start. You still have to find which way the word runs, so it’s a nudge, not a giveaway.

The little number on the Hint button shows how many you’ve got left.

Make It Yours: Word Packs, Board Size, and Levels

Tap the gear at the top of the game to open Settings. This is where you set up the kind of puzzle you want. Your picks stick, so the next puzzle uses them too.

Word packs

There are 13 packs to choose from:

  • Stitches: bobble, popcorn, waffle, crocodile, Catherine wheel, and a lot more.
  • Yarn & fiber: merino, mohair, worsted, skein, dye lot, superwash.
  • Tools & notions: hook, stitch marker, ball winder, safety eyes, blocking mat.
  • Crochet talk: frog, tink, magic ring, fasten off, WIP, UFO.
  • Cozy fall: pumpkin, cider, cardigan, bonfire, corn maze.
  • Halloween: witch, cauldron, black cat, candy corn, full moon.
  • Christmas & winter: stocking, gingerbread, snowflake, gnome, plaid.
  • Spring & summer: daisy, bucket hat, market bag, lemonade, firefly.
  • Amigurumi: octopus, axolotl, safety eyes, plushie, raccoon.
  • Home & decor: pouf, doily, plant hanger, mug cozy, table runner.
  • Wearables: raglan, yoke, balaclava, balloon sleeve, drop shoulder.
  • Colors: sage, mustard, terracotta, dusty rose, seafoam.
  • Everything: all of the packs mixed together, for when you want a surprise.

Board size

  • Small: an 8 by 8 grid with 7 words. A quick one while the kettle heats up.
  • Medium: an 11 by 11 grid with 11 words. The default, and a good middle ground.
  • Large: a 14 by 14 grid with 16 words. Settle in.

How the words run

This is where the difficulty lives.

  • Easy: words only run across and down. Perfect for a relaxed round or for kids playing along.
  • Tricky: adds diagonals. This is the default.
  • Sneaky: any direction at all, backwards too. This is the one that gets you.

Sound and full screen

Sound is on by default with a soft little chime when you find a word. Tap the speaker to turn it off. The circle arrow gives you a brand new puzzle any time.

The corner-bracket button is full screen. It tucks the heading out of the way so the board and your whole word list fit on the screen together, which is really nice on a phone. Tap the X to go back.

Here it is. Pick a pack and start hunting.

When You Find Them All

Circle the last word and the game tells you your time. Beat your best for that pack, size, and level, and it’ll tell you that too. Then hit Next puzzle and go again. Your best times are saved in the browser you’re playing on.

Stitch Search FAQs

Is Stitch Search free?

Yes. It’s free here on the blog and free in the Briana K Stitch app.

Do I need an account to play?

Not here. You can play on this page without signing up. The app version needs a free account, the same one that holds your patterns.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets, and computers. On a phone, you can drag across the letters or tap the first and last letter of a word. The full screen button gives you a bigger board.

Do the words run backward?

Only if you want them to. Easy keeps words across and down; Tricky adds diagonals; and Sneaky lets them run in any direction, including backward. Change it in Settings.

Are the words in US or UK crochet terms?

US terms, so you’ll see Single Crochet and Half Double, not the UK names.

What if I get stuck?

Use a hint. You get three per puzzle, and each one shows you where an unfound word starts. If you’d rather start fresh, the circle arrow button gives you a new puzzle.

Cheers, and happy crocheting (and word hunting).
