Add a little playful charm to your handmade décor with the Wheat Stitch™ Carrot crochet pattern! This adorable little carrot is full of cozy texture and whimsical personality, making it the perfect finishing touch for Easter baskets, spring garlands, gift toppers, seasonal displays, and even craft fair tables.

Three photos show yarn balls, crochet hooks, and finished crocheted carrots in orange, white, and purple colors, some tied with twine, displayed with illustrated carrot gift tags.

Crocheted in joined and turned rounds from the tip upward, this carrot uses my signature Wheat Stitch™ to create a beautifully textured fabric that’s simple to stitch and incredibly satisfying to watch grow. It’s a quick project with a big personality, ideal for using up small amounts of yarn while still creating something polished and gift-worthy.

Construction

The Wheat Stitch™ Carrot crochet pattern is designed to be simple and relaxing. Each carrot is crocheted from the tip upward, starting small and increasing to shape the body naturally. As you work toward the top, the Wheat Stitch™ creates a rich, textured fabric that gives the carrot its cozy, dimensional look. Once complete, stuff the carrot lightly, and add green yarn or twine strands at the opening for the carrot top. Then, close tightly, weave in ends, and gently adjust for shape.

Add your carrots to a Wheat Stitch™ Easter Basket with some Reusable Easter Eggs!

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch/space; yarn over again and pull up a long loop; yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space; yarn over again and pull up a long loop (5 loops on the hook); yarn over and pull through the first 4 loops; yarn over and pull through remaining loops.

Pattern Notes

  • A ch 1 at the beginning of a round is not counted as a stitch.
  • Using a stitch marker at the beginning (or end) of the round is recommended.
  • Do not overstuff the carrot; often, less is more (you don’t want your stuffing to show through).
  • This Pattern Uses Standard US Terminology. I use affiliate links and follow GPSR Compliance: privacy & disclosure policy here.

Closing the Top

Cut strands of yarn or twine (or both!), approx 6 inches long. As shown, there are 12 total strands. Holding the strands together, tie a knot in the center. Place the knot inside the carrot top, with the strands sticking out the top.

Using your yarn needle and tail end, weave through the front loop of all the remaining sts, pull closed, and weave in the end.

For a softer look with the twine, untwist and separate out the strands.

A hand holds three crocheted carrots in white, yellow, and orange yarn, tied with twine, with more yarn carrots and purple flowers in the background.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Now give your carrot a little fluff and a gentle squeeze, and then tuck in any sneaky ends, adjust the stuffing so it’s perfectly plump, and let those leafy (or twine-y) tops do their thing. Line it up with its carrot friends, tie a few together, pop it in a basket, or style it on a shelf.

The Wheat Stitch™ Carrot crochet pattern proves that small projects can still deliver big personality. With its cozy texture, quick construction, and endless decorating possibilities,  it’ll be hard to make only one.
