Construction

TheWheat Stitch™ Crochet Tree Skirt is designed to be both practical and satisfying to make.

You’ll work back and forth in rows, starting at the center opening and increasing gradually as the skirt grows outward. This construction allows the tree skirt to wrap easily around the base of your tree—no lifting, squeezing, or re-threading lights required.

As you stitch, you’ll add gentle, evenly spaced increases between puff rows, which helps the tree skirt grow smoothly while lying flat on the floor. The signature Wheat Stitch™ creates a rich, cozy texture that looks stunning in everything from classic reds and greens to modern neutrals or bold stripes.

Once complete, you will add ribbons for tyinng your new tree skirt closed (if desired). You now have a stunning tree skirt that will drape beautifully beneath the tree, framing gifts and adding a polished, handmade finishing touch to your holiday décor.

A decorated Christmas tree with a large burlap bow stands next to a fireplace adorned with stockings, greenery, and a holiday painting above the mantel, finished with a Wheat Stitch Crochet Tree Skirt Pattern for a cozy touch.

Let’s Talk Yarn!

You can use any worsted-weight yarn you love in any color—just check gauge and drape, especially if you swap fibers or brands.

Brava Tweed (WeCrochet)

Brava Tweed is cozy, durable, and has those adorable little flecks that make your stitches look extra festive without trying too hard. And we all know how much I LOVE this look! Plus, this yarn has great stitch definition for Wheat Stitch™ texture and holds its shape beautifully—aka your skirt won’t end up looking like a sad ruffle around the tree stand.

Herrschners Sparkle Worsted

If you want your tree skirt to whisper “classy” but also wink “I have glitter,” Herrschners Sparkle Worsted is a fun choice – and is easily one of my new favorite festive choices. It adds subtle shimmer for holiday magic, while still working up like a dependable worsted yarn. Perfect for making the Wheat Stitch™ texture stand out with a little twinkle.

If you’ve got some leftover yarn from your tree skirt, add a Wheat Stitch™ Stocking or some Wheat Stitch™ Mini Stockings!

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in all ends. Block if necessary to even out stitches and shape.

To secure your tree skirt around the base of the tree, cut lengths of ribbon and attach them along each side of the opening. Tie the matching ribbons together in sweet little bows for a charming, adjustable closure. Use just a few bows or add several all the way down, however full and festive you’d like it to be!

The Wheat Stitch™ Crochet Tree Skirt Pattern is more than just a holiday project — it’s a statement piece that brings warmth, texture, and handmade heart to your Christmas décor.
